Precautions for Weighbridge Foundation Construction
Site selection for weighbridges is the foundation to ensure accurate weighing results and extend equipment service life. It requires comprehensive consideration of geological conditions, environmental interference, and vehicle passage space.
Chongqing Bincheng Electrical & Mechanical Technology Co., Ltd. recommends that customers follow the requirements below during foundation construction:
Ⅰ. Foundation Site Selection
- Keep away from high-voltage power transmission lines.
- Stay clear of substations, signal towers, large motors, and other strong electromagnetic equipment. Shorten signal cables as much as possible, for longer cables lead to stronger signal interference.
- Adopt an independent power supply. Do not share circuits with high-power equipment, and arrange dedicated power lines directly from the distribution room.
- Avoid locations on monsoon passages, as strong winds will cause unstable weighing readings.
- When confirming the installation position, take the site size and surrounding buildings into consideration. Reserve sufficient straight approach roads to ensure vehicles drive straight onto and off the weighbridge without turning on the scale platform. Meanwhile, check geological conditions, including soil bearing capacity, frozen soil depth, underground water level, drainage condition, earthing, and lightning protection.
Ⅱ. Foundation Pit Strength Requirements
- Weighbridge foundation standard: soil bearing capacity shall be no less than 20t/m². Weighbridges are designed to bear dozens to hundreds of tons. Soft soil will easily cause foundation settlement and unbalanced stress on sensors. Avoid low-lying areas; the installation site shall be higher than the surrounding ground to prevent rainwater from submerging the scale body and damaging electronic components.
- For areas with frozen soil, the foundation excavation depth must be below the local frost line, so as to prevent foundation settlement and scale body inclination after frozen soil thaws.
- Weighbridge foundation strength specifications:
- Each sensor support plate shall bear pressure no less than half of the full scale capacity. The longitudinal part of the foundation lane guard edge shall bear impact force no less than one-third of the full scale capacity.
- No single-point subsidence shall occur at sensor support points under full load.
Ⅲ. Weighbridge Foundation Construction
- Determine whether to lay steel mesh and pour reinforced concrete frame beams according to actual foundation strength. For soft ground, compact the base first, then pour a 300-400mm thick integral reinforced concrete structure with 1 to 2 layers of steel mesh at the bottom, and finally cast load-bearing cross beams for sensors on top.
- During construction, bury an earthing pole about 3 meters beside the scale body. Install at least one lightning rod within 3 to 5 meters around the foundation, or build a rainproof canopy for the weighbridge.
- Build drainage ditches on one side of the foundation to prevent sensors from being soaked by accumulated water. Slope the impermeable concrete layer towards the drainage side.
- If auxiliary facilities such as infrared photoelectric sensors, intelligent barrier gates, and video monitoring systems are equipped, construct them simultaneously with foundation guard edges.
